A cancer diagnosis and the treatment that follows can be extremely upsetting and can completely shatter life as you know it. However, your post-cancer life can often be more difficult than you expected it to be after the celebration of going into remission is over.

Then, if you are trying to move your life forward after being treated for cancer, here are some of the top steps that you should take.

  • Attend Regular Appointments

After recovering from cancer, it is still important to attend all of your regular appointments to check that you are in good health and that there are no signs of the cancer returning. Regular appointments can also allow the doctors overseeing your care to check for signs that the treatment that you have received has damaged your organs or another part of your body. By catching these symptoms early, they can give you the treatment that you need as soon as possible if this is the case.

  • Find the Best Products

When you have recently recovered from cancer, you may still have to deal with certain side effects from any treatment or surgery that you had, and these may impair your life for a long time to come. However, products have been developed to help you to cope with the lasting difficulties that the cancer has left you with. For instance, if mouth or esophageal cancer has left you with dysphagia, or difficulty swallowing, you should consider investing in food thickeners to help you to consume the food that you need to thrive. If you want to find out more about food thickeners, you can head to the Simply Thick Twitter to read more about the products that they offer.

  • Cope with Your Emotions

Just because you have recovered from your cancer, this does not mean that you will have healed emotionally from your ordeal. Instead, you might still have lasting emotions of frustration, confusion, guilt or anger which could impact your ability to participate in daily life to the full. Not only this, but sometimes, these emotions can turn into mental health issues such as depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, which could make it difficult to manage your everyday life and routine. Then, you should take the time that you need to process all of your emotions, and even speak to a therapist if you are having problems overcoming them.

  • Avoid Rushing Back to Normal

It can be easy to rush back into normal life without thinking about the effect that this might have on your mental and physical health. Recovery can be a long process that can be pushed back by hurrying back to work and the hobbies that you have previously enjoyed. Then, you should try to return to normal gradually and avoid feeling pressured to perform certain activities at a pace that does not suit you and your individual situation.

Navigating your post-cancer life can be just as difficult as getting through the treatment for cancer itself. However, by taking your time and handling your emotions, as well as getting the best treatment and aids, you will soon be able to put your experience with cancer behind you.

As your parents start to get older, you might become more concerned about their health and how you can help them to maintain it for longer. Then, if you are looking for ways to support them in their old age, this guide can give you a few tips on how to better care for your parents’ health as it begins to worsen.

Install Home Aids

The first step that you can take is to help them to install home aids into their house, such as rails and stairlifts. Not only this, but you might also consider making adjustments for them, such as installing a ramp next to their front door or widening the doorways if they have a wheelchair. By installing these aids, you will enable them to live longer in their home independently and to be able to cope better with their existing health conditions.

Look at Senior Living Facilities

There may come a time, though, when the care that you can offer them is not enough. In these cases, you might then start to look at senior residences near me. Senior residences can allow your parents to continue to live full lives even when they are struggling to manage alone, as they will have access to all of the healthcare and the facilities that they need to thrive. Then, you should consider speaking to them about senior living facilities in advance to ensure that you can choose one for them that meets their needs.

Encourage a Healthy Lifestyle

However, your parents are more likely to struggle with their health if they make poor lifestyle choices. Then, you should try to encourage them to enjoy a healthy lifestyle as much as possible. For instance, you could help them to eat well by cooking them healthy meals or signing them up for a healthy food subscription service, or you might go on walks or active days out with them. You should also try to visit them as often as you can to keep their brains active and you should try to get them to cut out bad habits like drinking too much alcohol and smoking.

Take Them to Appointments

Sometimes, your parents may neglect their health because they struggle to get to appointments, especially if they are unable to drive. Then, you should try to help them to get to their appointments by driving them yourself or by arranging a taxi for them. If you are particularly worried that they are not looking after themselves, you might also offer to go with them to the appointment and speak to a doctor about their health yourself. You should also check that they are taking their medications, and ensure that they can contact you in an emergency or when they need to.

Then, even if you live far from them, it is important to check on and look after your parents’ health. Although you cannot force them to stay healthy, you might want to research senior living facilities to plan for the future, or simply guide them as to the best steps that they can take to be healthier.

Sleep is essential for your physical and mental health, but many people do struggle to get a good night’s sleep. There are a lot of things that can keep you up at night, whether that is worrying about things that are going on in your life, making mental to-do lists, and even struggling to get comfortable enough to drift off into sleep. If you have recently been finding it tough to sleep through the night, and you want to stop feeling tired and cranky, here are some tips that could help you out.

Make Sure You’re Getting Enough Exercise

When you’re feeling tired, the thought of doing any physical activity might be enough to make you groan. However, getting enough exercise throughout the day is a great way to improve your sleep at night. It will help you to expel any excess energy you might have, which will help you drift off at night. Exercise can also help to boost your mood, making you less likely to feel stressed or anxious at night, which often keeps people awake. If you can get outside and incorporate some fresh air into your exercise routine, that’s even better!

Get a New Mattress and Pillows

Another reason you might be tossing and turning all night long is that your mattress is not giving you the right support. If you are uncomfortable, this will make it harder for you to sleep, and you might even find that you’re waking up with aches and pains each morning. It’s always smart to test a mattress in-store before you buy one, as this will give you a better indication of how supportive it will truly be for you. You might also want to look into getting better pillows or even something like this neck pillow to support your head and keep your body better aligned throughout the night.

Limit Screen Time Before Bed

How often do you feel tired but convince yourself to watch just one more episode, or video clip, or scrolling through social media, to suddenly find that three hours fly by, and you don’t get to sleep until the early hours of the morning? It’s easily done, but this can seriously impact your sleep cycle and leave you feeling exhausted in the morning. This is why having a cut-off time for screens can be a good idea, preferably an hour before you would like to go to bed. Instead, choose a more relaxing activity like reading, writing in your journal, meditation, or even listening to some soothing music to help you relax and switch off.

Shower, Bath, and Fragrance

Some people find that a shower first thing in the morning can perk them up, but a hot shower or bath before bed can also help you to feel more relaxed. If you are struggling to sleep, consider trying to incorporate this into your nighttime routine, even if it’s just a couple of times a week, and see if that helps. You might also want to think about using linen sprays or a diffuser in your bedroom, choosing scents such as lavender that are calming and is associated with promoting better sleep.

It’s very important to make sure that you are getting enough sleep each night, and if this is something that you have been struggling with lately, use these tips to see if they can help you turn that around.

The American band KISS has further postponed their upcoming events from their world tour as the members of the group have tested positive for COVID-19.

Last week, KISS had announced the postponement of their Burgettstown’s concert as the guitarist Paul Stanley was found positive for the virus. However, Paul has now recovered, but, another member of the group has contracted the infection.

Recently, KISS announced further postponement of few of their upcoming shows as after Paul, the bassist and co-vocalist for the band, Gene Simmons, also has the virus. The band made the announcement on Tuesday that their tour dates for the next four days have been pushed back.

However, all the band members and crew are fully vaccinated.

Sharing the statement on Twitter, KISS stated, “KISS will postpone their next four tour dates. While Paul Stanley recently tweeted he has recovered form COVID, Gene Simmons has now tested positive and is experiencing mild symptoms.”

The statement further stated when the band will be back on stage to resume their tour which has been on since 2019. “The band and the crew members will remain at home and isolate for the next ten days and the doctors have indicated the tour should be able to resume on September 9th at FivePoint Amphitheatre in Irvene, CA.”

Moreover, those who bought the tickets for the stated days will be refunded. “All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new dates once announced. More information will be emailed to the ticket holders,” said the statement by KISS,

The shows that have been postponed are-

September 1- Clarkson, MI at DTE Energy Music Theatre

September 2- Dayton, OH at Wright State University Nutter Center

September 4- Tinley Park, IL at Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre

September 5- Milwaukee, WI at American Family Insurance Amphitheater- Summerfest Grounds

The American rock band KISS, which was formed in 1973, embarked on their final tour “End of the Road” tour in January 2019. However, ever since the completion of the European leg of the tour, the band has been needing to postpone the rest of the tour for a long time.

Initially, the band’s final tour had to be paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Subsequently, in December 2020, KISS finally announced the resumption of their final tour during the summer of 2021. Finally, the tour began in January 2021 with the band’s first performance at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada.

However, as the pandemic was still on, the band members were being tested for the virus frequently. One of such days, the band’s guitarist, 69-year-old Paul Stanley was announced to have tested positive for COVID-19. Needless to say, the shows lined up for that day and the next few days were pushed back.

The news of Paul having COVID and postponement of the show came as a shock as the visitors/audience had already reached the venue at The Pavilion at Star Lake in Burgettstown, PA.

The band announced on back then, “Tonight’s #KISS show at The Pavilion at Star Lake in Burgettstown, PA is unfortunately postponed due to Paul Stanley testing positive for COVID. More information about show dates will be made available ASAP. “Everyone on the entire tour, both band and crew, are fully vaccinated,” the post further read. The band continued, “The band and their crew have operated in a bubble independently to safeguard everyone as much as possible at each show and in between shows. The tour also has a COVID safety protocol officer on staff full-time that is ensuring everyone is closely following all CDC guidelines.”

In fact, people had become so worried that Paul himself took it to Twitter to calm everyone down. The 69-year-old musician tweeted, “PEOPLE!!! I am fine! I am not in ICU! My heart allows me to do 26 miles a day on my bike! I don’t know where this came from but it’s absolute non sense.” Stanley further stated, “A Full Press Release Will Be Issued Shortly about upcoming KISS shows. I had been sick with flu-like symptoms and was tested repeatedly negative. As of late this afternoon, I tested positive. The crew, staff and band have all tested negative once again. More to follow!”

As Paul Stanley announced his recovery, Gene Simmons was found positive for the virus.

Moreover, the news has received mix reactions from the fans of the rock band. A fan, supporting the band and Gene Simmons wrote, “Gene, hope you and your crew are well very soon! Thank you for your bravery in asking people to protect themselves as well as others and listen to the CDC advice… I guess I never knew just how seriously YOU ROCK!”

On the other hand, a disappointed and angry fan asked the band to call off the entire tour at once. The person tweeted, “Do us all a favor and cancel ALL future tour dates, the end of the road was 20 years ago for you guys, some bands are tolerable when they are old and gray but you are not one of them. It would be nice if you could just go away and stop trying so hard to be relevant, it’s OVER!!!

The 72-year-old bassist, Gene Simmons himself is subtly countering such mean comments and also shared a screenshot from news article which stated CDC’s report about how vaccinated adults are less likely to be hospitalized due to COVID.

Besides, Gene has been vocal about the COVID-19 pandemic and infection, and has been using his social media to educate people about the same.

Replying to one mean comment which asked why Gene is “pedaling so often” for the infection, on Twitter, Gene wrote, “… worldwide Covid infection is 218 million. That’s 200,000,000 individual human beings. Besides the ones who have sadly passed on, the rest suffer with excruciating pain, some with tubes down their throats and so on… That’s why, Genius.

However, the majority of fans have come in support of the band countering such mean and rude comments about the band and their event.

Additionally, the band recently announced the tickets for their upcoming “The KISS Kruise.” The band shared via Twitter, “#KISSNAVY! Under 60 days until WE set sail TOGETHER on @TheKISSKruise X! Get ready for days of sun & nights of fist pumping Rock & Roll on our ULTIMATE #KISS adventure! October 29- November 3.”

The popular American rock band KISS has postponed their concert that was scheduled for today at Burgettstown as the band member Paul Stanley has COVID-19.

This news was so sudden and surprising as some of the viewers were already on their way to the concert when they got to know about the cancellation. In fact, some were already at the gates of the venue with their tickets ready to enter. The lead vocalist of KISS, Paul Stanley, has been found positive for COVID-19 even though he was fully vaccinated.

The news was announced by the band via their official social media handle. Writing on Facebook, the band stated, “Tonight’s #KISS show at The Pavilion at Star Lake in Burgettstown, PA is unfortunately postponed due to Paul Stanley testing positive for COVID. More information about show dates will be made available ASAP.”

KISS’ concert at Burgettstown tonight was one of the show from their ongoing tour, which is supposed to be the band’s final tour ever. The same tour was halted once before due to the ongoing pandemic, which resumed in the summer of 2021.

There is no update on when the band will be able to pick up with the tour or how many next concerts would need to be cancelled.

Additionally, Paul Stanley himself took it to his Twitter to update and calm his fans down. The 69-year-old musician tweeted, “PEOPLE!!! I am fine! I am not in ICU! My heart allows me to do 26 miles a day on my bike! I don’t know where this came from but it’s absolute non sense.”

Stanley further stated, “A Full Press Release Will Be Issued Shortly about upcoming KISS shows. I had been sick with flu-like symptoms and was tested repeatedly negative. As of late this afternoon, I tested positive. The crew, staff and band have all tested negative once again. More to follow!”

Certainly, the news have upset the fans of the Rock and Roll Fame inductee band KISS. However, people have wished for fast recovery for Paul as well and shared their best wishes to the band. A disappointed fan commented on the announcement post by KISS, “My husband and I have tickets for the show tonight… we were so excited as we have never seen KISS. We were waiting at the gates when they told us it was canceled. Sending prayers to Paul.”

Another fan wrote, “So sorry to hear (Paul Stanley) has COVID. Extremely disappointed to drive four hours and get a hotel room and get to the gates and find out it has been cancelled. Testing and results should be done hours before a show.”

Other than that, people also praised the band’s previous performance which they gave at t Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio, where they also celebrated Gene Summons’ (bassist) 72nd birthday. A fan wrote, “Just seen them last night in Toledo. They rocked it out of the house. Paul did sound a bit hoarse, but did an amazing job. Prayers to Paul for a speedy recovery.”

This is the last tour by the rock band KISS, which has been named “The End of the Road World Tour.” The tour began in January 2021 with the band’s first performance at at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada.

Announced in 2018, the tour was originally set to begin in 2019, which it indeed did with an opening act from the professional painter David Garibaldi. That year, KISS majorly covered the the European leg of the tour with some shows in North America. Subsequently, the band was supposed to enter the North American in 2020.

Needless to say, the tour eventually got postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. KISS announced that the tour would resume in 2021, which had almost 150 shows left.

Unfortunately, the tour has once again paused with a show at Burgettstown, as the lead vocalist Paul Stanley tests positive for COVID-19.

Earlier, in the tour program for the band’s last tour, Stanley had said, “Kiss is much more than a rock and roll band. The band and its fans are a tribe. It’s humbling for me that we can be the magnet that brings people together. What we have with the fans is reciprocity. The fans are our oxygen, they are our blood. They make it possible for us to exist. This tour is a celebration of 40 years of that connection between Kiss and the fans.”

The future plan and dates for the tour will be announced by the band soon. As of now, the rock band KISS has been able to make for only a few concerts. There is a long way for this tour to go. So far, the band has covered two legs of the concerts- first leg of North America and European Leg.

Further, the band’s final concert is distributed as-

  • Leg 3 – North America (ongoing)
  • Leg 4 – Asia
  • Leg 5 – United States
  • Leg 6 – United States
  • Leg 7 – Australia
  • Las Vegas Residency
  • Leg 8 – Latin America
  • Leg 9 – Europe

In the wake of increasing cases of COVID-19 cases worldwide, the band Florida Georgia Line has decided to cancel their upcoming tour in fall 2021.

The pandemic caused by COVID-19 is not completely gone yet, rather, the new and all more powerful variants are making it hard for the world to get to being normal. With the indication of third wave and already destructive Delta variant, the world including music and entertainment industry is at the verge of shutting down once again.

Keeping the current scenario in mind, the American country music duo Florida Georgia Line, composed of Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelly, has canceled its fall tour of amphitheaters and arenas. The news was announced by the duo on the official social media handles of Florida Georgia Line.

Sharing a picture from one of the tours, the group wrote on Instagram, “While we’ve been able to see some of y’all at shows recently, everyone’s continued safety has been weighing heavy on us.”

The post continued, “We’re so bummed to have to cancel this tour, but we know in our hearts that we still have to make sure we’re keeping our fans and crew safe. We love y’all and can’t wait to be back out when the time is right.”

Moreover, those who had booked their tickets will be refunded the amount. The duo stated, “For all current ticket holders, refunds will be issued to the original method of payment used at time of purchase. No action is required to obtain a refund.”

The member of the Florida Georgia Line said in a statement, “There is nothing better than seeing all of your faces from the stage, feeling your good energy, and making memories together,” Tyler Hubbard said in a statement. “We were hopeful we could get back on the road this fall,”

Tyler also took it to his personal account to share the news with his fans. He said that having to cancel the tour has been “one of the toughest decisions we’ve had to make.”

“Due to the rising COVID cases and risk of putting our family, band and crew, friends, and fans in harm’s way, we’ve decided it’s best to cancel the fall tour. This breaks our heart as we were so excited to get back out and throw a party for the fans. We are so disappointed.”

Sharing a few words of hope, Tyler continued, “It’s been a ling hard last years and a half for us. One thing I put hope in is that even when it doesn’t make sense, when times are tough, the Lord is in control and knows what he is doing. I look forward to seeing what he’s up to.”

Brian Kelly on the other hand, shared the news of cancellation on his Instagram story stating, “Massive bummer y’all!!! Was looking forward to this more than anything. Sad day. Love Y’all!!”

Needless to say, the fans were highly disappointed with the news, but they also understand and accept the decision. Commenting on the news, a fan wrote, “Terrible news but understand. Love FGL. Gonna pour a shot of Old Camp when I get home n drown in my sorrow.”

Another supported wrote, “I understand, I’m little sad… was looking forward to meeting y’all. You all have a good heart thinking of us all and for our safety. I love you and Respect y’all decision. I love you.”

However, there are also some people who think that this is “BS” and are not happy with the cancellation. An Instagram user commented, “This is insane… a few weeks ago I was at an Aldean concert with a BUNCH of people… we are good! And before that I was INSIDE with thousands of a Dierks concert… all good.”

Another disappointed fan wrote, “Ridiculous, If masks work what is the problem if vaccine work… what’s the probem.”

Nonetheless, some people also requested people hating on the band to calm down and spread positivity and not hate. A comment read, “People please stop spreading negativity on this post. And stop being mean to them. They are protecting us all so we won’t catch Corona so no one won’t get sick. You all should atleast respect them for our safety. Don’t blame them… it’s not their fault. Keep the negative thoughts to yourselves. It’s not a Joke. Stop being mean to FGL they been through enough. They are human just like us all. Only God knows when the time is right.”

Florida Gerogia Line’s Fall Tour had Russell Dickerson, Lauren Alaina and Redferrin as openers. This tour was scheduled to have hit venues such as the Forum and the Glen Helen Amphitheatre in the L.A. area and Jiffy Lube Live in Washington, D.C

Tyler and Brian had 29 scheduled stops. FGL’s fall tour, which was set to kick off at Cellairis Amphitheatre at Lakewood in Atlanta on Sept. 24, would have closed out Nov. 20 at the new Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle.

With the surge in cases of COVID-19 in the United States of America, many woke artists who have their upcoming shows scheduled, are cancelling them for the safety of people. As per the reports of The New York Times, US has reported more than 900,000 hospitalizations related to the virus throughout the nation, with 800 newly reported deaths a day.

Therefore, other than Florida Georgia Line, other groups and artists including BTS and Nine Inch Nails have also put hold hold on their upcoming shows. The globally popular Korean boys bamd BTS announced the cancellation of its world tour BTS Map of the Soul on Thirsday.

Kathy Griffin, the comedian known for her show “Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List”, recently revealed that she has lung cancer, and that half of her left lung needs to be surgically removed. Now, the comedian opened up about her past and the rough times she dealt with.

In an interview with ABC News, Griffin recalled her past and talked about the time she was bullied and hated for the Donald Trump controversy. Apparently, Kathy had a photo shoot where she held a fake bloodied head that resembled the former President Donald Trump.

Although Griffin apologized for the incident, it took a toll on the comedian. Griffin told that it was around this time when she got involved with pills, which eventually led her to take her own life. She told, “I thought, ‘Well, I don’t even drink… Big deal, I take a couple pills now and again, who doesn’t?’ Also, my age was a big part of it. I mean, who bottoms out and tries to take their life at 59? It’s almost a joke, right, and by the way, someday, this will all be comedy.”

“Trust me… I was laughing to stay alive. And what I found is I felt like if I can’t make others laugh, then there’s no purpose for me to live. There’s no reason for me to live,” said Griffin.

According to the comedian, she was prescribed Provigil and Ambien by a doctor, but her dependence on the pills “got out of control very rapidly.” Among the suicidal thoughts, Griffin revealed that the backlash for her photo shoot made her feel that the critics were right and there was no next chapter in her career and life. “I just felt there was impending doom. I was already starting to think … it was time for me to go. And I was certainly being told by an awful lotta people it’s time for me to go,” Griffin told ABC News.

Griffin continued, “I mean, legit death threats with everything, from online, which is the Google pictures of the house, the address. I mean, folks showed up to my husband’s parents’ house… They tracked my sister down when she was dying of cancer in the hospital and called her … I picked up the call and heard it myself because I happened to be visiting her.”

However, Griffin managed to get out of that phase and considered seriously about recovery when she actually attempted to take her life, with a suicide note prepared. She finally sought medical help.

“Here’s the silver lining, I am so thrilled and grateful. I feel like, at 60, I’m gonna get a next chapter. That’s the thing everyone said wasn’t gonna happen. I believed [it] wasn’t gonna happen,” said Griffin.

Amidst the increasing cases of Delta variant of coronavirus in the US, the US Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning against a rare neurological disease associated with the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.

As announced by the US federals on Monday, Janssen, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine for COVID-19, can cause a rare neurological disorder called Guillain-Barré syndrome, which could be potentially serious. After the reports of some “adverse events” noted by the authorities, FDA has added a side effect of the syndrome on the said vaccine.

Guillain-Barré syndrome, as said before, is a rare neurological disorder, in which a person’s own immune system damages the nerves. As stated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the nerves damage cause by this disorder leads to muscle weakness and sometimes paralysis.

According to the reports, the risk of Guillain-Barré syndrome is increased during 42 days after vaccination.

FDA notified, “The FDA has evaluated the available information or the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine and continues to find the known and potential benefits clearly outweigh the known and potential risks.” As per the reports, so far, the US has seen 100 cases of the Guillain-Barré syndrome reported in the people who were the recipients of Janssen vaccine. However, the evidence in the matter is “insufficient to establish a causal relationship,” said FDA.

On the other hand, Johnson & Johnson also gave a statement on the topic. The company said, “We strongly support raising awareness of the signs and symptoms of rare events to ensure they can be quickly identified and effectively treated.”

Johnsons & Johnson also mentioned, “Evidence has demonstrated that Johnson & Johnson’s single-shot COVID-19 vaccine offers protection against COVID-19 disease and prevents hospitalization and death, including in countries where viral variants are highly prevalent. A single-shot vaccine that provides this level of protection represents an important tool in the global fight against COVID-19, as we strive to help end this deadly pandemic.”

However, the symptoms associated with Guillain-Barré syndrome include experiencing weakness or tingling in arms and legs, double vision or difficulty walking, speaking, chewing, swallowing, or controlling your bladder or bowels.

Actor Patricia Heaton, famously known for her work in “Everybody Loves Raymond”, is celebrating three years of sobriety from alcohol.

The 63 years old actress Patricia Heaton, who had fallen into alcoholism, took it to her Instagram to share the news of her achieving the three year milestone. Heaton shared a video she took of herself while walking around a reservoir and completing a three-and-a-half-mile walk. The actress candidly spoke about her journey with from alcohol to quit drinking.

Heaton said, “Hello, friends! I’m just finishing up my, what, 3½-mile walk around the reservoir. And it’s July, when we celebrate our nation’s freedom. Also, [I’m] celebrating three years of freedom from alcohol for me. So I just want to share that with you,”

Not only did Heaton share her story, but also extended a hand to help the others who are going through the same experience. Patricia said, “Message me if you are thinking about doing that and if you are doing that now and you need some encouragement or anything at all,”

Patricia’s post, which she captioned “A lot to celebrate this month. #3years,” is filled with positive and encouraging comments from her fans and friends. Additionally, several people shared their own journey on the comment section as well.

Last year, Heaton had opened up more about her alcoholism to the Parade Magazine. Back then, Heaton told “I quit drinking two years ago in July. I miss it terribly, but at the end of the day, I feel better.” She also stated some statistics about alcoholism among women. “There’s an actual statistic that women who were moderate drinkers in their 30s and 40s often become alcoholics in their 50s and 60s. I think it’s something about your children leaving the house and the things that used to anchor you are no longer there,” said Heaton.

Pointing out a few reasons as to why people, specifically women fall prey to alcoholism, Heaton said, “And as your hormones change, you can’t really process alcohol the same way you did when you were younger. I’ve stopped, and my life has improved significantly.”

The actress also addressed the body insecurity that old women feel. She said, “We all have those voices that tell us, ‘You’re getting so old. Your skin is sagging.’ But we can’t let that be the running narrative in our heads,” she said. “Try to appreciate the fact that you can get up and have another day, with many opportunities ahead of you. You don’t have to berate yourself if you have those thoughts. You can say hello to them.”

USA celebrated its 245th Independence Day on Sunday with fireworks and parade. President Biden addressed the US citizen on the celebration of 4th of July and motivated the listeners about coming out of the pandemic together, and again stated the need of vaccination for every individual.

On Sunday, President Biden acknowledged the country, “Today, all across this nation, we can say with confidence: America is coming back together,”

Biden said in his address. “Two hundred and forty-five years ago we declared independence from a distant king. Today, we’re closer than ever to declaring our independence from a deadly virus. That’s not to say the battle against COVID-19 is over. We’ve got a lot more work to do.” However, COVID-19, “no longer controls our lives, it no longer paralyzes our nation and it’s within our power to make sure it never does again,” said Biden.

Though Biden administration is significantly behind their goal to have 70% US citizens received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, President Biden looked on the brighter side. The President said, “Just think back to where this nation was a year ago. Think back to where you were a year ago. And think about how far we’ve come,”

However, after shining a light on the positive side, Mr. Biden made sure to warn people about the threats posed by new Delta variant of COVID-19, which has been recognized as the “variant of concern” by WHO. He said, “COVID-19 has not been vanquished. But the best defense against these variants is to get vaccinated,”

Mr. Biden said. “My fellow Americans, it is the most patriotic thing you can do —  so please, if you haven’t gotten vaccinated, do it, do it now. Do it for yourself, for your loved ones, for your community and for your country.”

“Together we’re beating the virus. Together we are breathing life into our economy. Together we’ll rescue our people from division and despair. But together we must do it,” Biden added.

Besides COVID-19, President Biden covered other important and underlying issues within the nation including climate change, transgender rights and voters rights. The President said, “Each day we’re reminded there’s nothing guaranteed about our democracy. We have to fight for it.” He added that the right to vote and have that vote counted is sacred.

The residents of New York’s Onondaga County have been alerted by the health officials about “Anaplasmosis”, a rare disease/infection caused by ticks which leads to severe diseases. The health officials alerted the people after the cases of the diseases increased in a short period.

As told by the county’s health commissioner, only three cases of the said disease were reported in the last five years. This year has seen a comparatively drastic increase as 6 cases of Anaplasmosis have been reported on in 2021.

Dr. Indu Gupta, the Onondaga County’s health commissioner stated, “In New York State, the disease is spread by the blacklegged tick, which is the same type of tick that typically spreads Lyme disease. If we are diligent in practicing the same prevention measures we’ve learned to prevent Lyme disease, we are protecting ourselves from other tick-borne diseases including anaplasmosis.”

CDC explains that the bacterial disease Anaplasmosis is caused and spread by tick bites, primarily by the blacklegged tick and the western blacklegged tick. The symptoms of the disease include headache, nausea, chills, fever, severe headache, muscle ache, vomiting, diarrhea and loss of appetite, which may appear after within 1-2 weeks of the bite.

The disease Anaplasmosis is certainly dangerous as it can also lead to respiratory failure, bleeding problems, organ failure, or even death. However, these symptoms mainly occur if the treatment is not started on time of due to some underlying medical conditions. Similar to Covid, those who have a weak or weakened immune system are at the risk of severe illness cause by this tick-borne disease.

In order to control the wide spread of Anaplamosis, the health department has advised taking certain steps to ensure tick prevention, specifically in the camping and vacations season. People are advised to cover their body with shoes, light-colored socks, long pants and a long-sleeved shirt while outdoors. Before going out, people should also consider using insect repellents which contain DEET and others approved by the EPA.

In additions, the health department has also advised frequent checking for ticks after spending time outdoors and removing any promptly.

Different diseases caused by ticks have increased in the recent times. Other than New York, Maine has also confirmed a case of tick-borne Powassan virus. Besides, the cases of Lyme disease caused by ticks have tripled since the late 1990s.

In a new study, Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that suicide attempts among teenagers, specifically teenage girls spiked during the pandemic. The report shows a dramatic increase in the ER visits for suicide attempts among teens.

The rate of suicide attempts is found greater than that of teen boys. As per the reports by CDC, suicide attempts among 12 to 17-year-old girls surged during the pandemic. The average of weekly visits to the ER for the month of February 2021 to March 2021 was 50.6 percent higher than the same month in 2019.

CDC says that the sharp increase began in May 2020. However, according to the organisation, the ER visits for suspected suicides include suicide attempts as well as non-suicidal harms.

On the other hand, the report shows an increase of 4 percent in the suicide attempts among the teenage boys for the same age group. The authors of the report stated, “The findings from this study suggest more severe distress among young females than has been identified in previous reports during the pandemic, reinforcing the need for increased attention to, and prevention for, this population,”

The data for the research/study was gathered by the CDC from the National Syndromic Surveillance Program’s emergency department visit data in 49 states.

Most importantly, not all of the states showed consistent emergency department visit data. Besides, the race and ethnicity data were not available at the time of the study.

The reason behind the surge in the suicide attempt cases in the teens, as described by the CDC, could be the disruption of daily life with pandemic lockdowns and social distancing orders. Additionally, as CNBC reported, seeking mental health treatment was also difficult, which eventually led to substance abuse, which contributed to the already aggressive COVID related anxiety.

Above all, the authors of the report notably emphasized on the mental toll the pandemic has taken on adolescents, particularly young women, despite the statistical numbers.

The director of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Rochelle Walensky pled the teenagers to get vaccinated as she showed her concern over the increasing teenage hospitalizations due to COVID-19. She also urged the parents to get their children vaccinated as soon as possible.

According to the reports, there is an alarming spike in hospitalizations of teenager from 12-17 year olds.

“I am deeply concerned by the numbers of hospitalized adolescents and saddened to see the number of adolescents who required treatment in intensive care units or mechanical ventilation,” Dr. Rochelle Walensky said in a statement. Walensky added, “Much of this suffering can be prevented.”

Walensky presented a report by the federal health agency, which shows that the rate of hospitalizations due to COVID in the kids ages 12 to 17 surged between March and April. The report found 204 adolescents were likely hospitalized for Covid-19 between January 1 and March 31, 2021. Although there were no deaths associated to the virus, nearly a third were admitted to intensive care units. Additionally, around 4.9% of hospitalized teenage patients required invasive mechanical ventilation.

The director of CDC said, “In the month leading up to the recommendations of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine for teens and adolescents 12 and older, CDC observed troubling data regarding the hospitalizations of adolescents with Covid-19… More concerning were the number of adolescents admitted to the hospital who required treatment in the intensive care unit with mechanical ventilation.”

Some experts say that the surge in the rate of teenage hospitalizations due to Covid-19 is a reminder that children too can suffer badly from the virus.

Dr. Paul Offit, director of the Vaccine Education Center at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia said on Friday that the surge in cases “tells you children can still suffer and be hospitalized by this virus… We had this notion, initially, that this was just a disease of older people. It’s not true. This virus can also hurt children,”

Offit said that the country has to do better in vaccinating teenagers, and one of the hurdles is convincing the parents about safety of the vaccines amidst the widespread misinformation associated with fertility, menstruation, pregnancy and more.

The world that we live in completely changed on 31stDecember 2019. This was the fateful day when the first-ever case of COVID-19 was reported. Since then, this deadly virus has infected over 150 million people and resulted in 3.3 million deaths[i]. This pandemic shined a light on a fact that was known but generally ignored, i.e. medical emergencies can occur without any warning. This makes it essential to have a backup plan for emergencies in the form of mediclaim or health insurance.

The COVID-19 pandemic also highlighted the susceptibility of older people to health complications. Furthermore, the World Health Organization (WHO) stated that older people are more vulnerable to being infected with COVID-19 due to decreased immunity due to their age[ii].

Given the current situation, it is natural for us to worry about our parents. Hence, it is necessary to buy mediclaim for parents to safeguard against medical emergencies and the ongoing pandemic.

How to Buy Mediclaim for Parents

It is common to think that purchasing a mediclaim policy involves a lot of waiting, paperwork, formalities, etc. However, in today’s time, it is as simple as purchasing items from an e-commerce platform.

You just need to visit the insurance provider’s website, choose the mediclaim policy for parents, fill in your parent’s personal details, medical history, select the sum insured, set the premium, and click buy! In just a few clicks,  you have purchased a mediclaim policy for your parents.

However, you must consider several key points regarding mediclaim for parents before you purchase it.

What to Consider When Buying Mediclaim for Parents?

  • Co-Payment Clause

Some mediclaim insurance plans come with a co-payment clause. According to this clause, the policyholder has to pay a certain percentage of the medical expenses. This can result in significant out-of-pocket expenditures for you. Hence, try choosing a plan that has a low co-payment. It would be even better if you buy a plan that does not have this clause inserted.

  • Pre-existing Illness Cover

Generally, mediclaim policies do not include a cover for pre-existing illnesses. However, some policies cover it, but that comes with a waiting period. Thus, look for policies that have a short waiting period for pre-existing illnesses. Opting for a short waiting period in this category might increase your premium; nevertheless, it makes sense to do so.

  • Sub-limit on Treatments

Some insurance providers set a certain sub-limit on specified treatments. In some cases, they even add a sub-limit clause on the room rent. It refers to a specified monetary cap placed by the insurance providers on predetermined categories. Thus, when buying a mediclaim policy, ensure there are no sub-limit clauses. Even though this may result in a higher premium. You would not want a scenario wherein an expensive treatment has a sub-limit clause, and a percentage of the expenses are paid out of your pocket.

  • COVID-19 Coverage

As mentioned, older people may be more vulnerable to COVID-19, especially if they have a history of certain illnesses. Hence, the mediclaim plan that you choose must include cover for COVID-19 related hospitalisation expenses.

Exclusions Under Mediclaim for Parents

When buying mediclaim for parents, it is equally important to know what is not covered under the mediclaim policy. Some general exclusions in this category are as follows:

  • Surgery, accident, or diagnosis of the disease within 30 days of purchasing the policy.
  • Treatment of congenital disabilities.
  • Non-allopathic treatments like Ayurveda, Unani, and Naturopathy.
  • Pre-existing illnesses as per the waiting period of the chosen policy.
  • Expenses as a result of self-inflicted injuries (attempted suicide).
  • Expenses as a result of drugs (drugs that have not been prescribed by practising medical practitioners), tobacco, narcotics, and alcohol.
  • Hospitalisation or treatment expenses due to war, nuclear attacks, chemical sources, and biological warfare.

These are some of the common exclusions as part of mediclaim for parents. However, these vary depending on the insurance provider chosen.

Compare and Purchase Mediclaim for Parents

There is a simple solution if you are confused about which mediclaim policy to buy. You can access different insurer websites and compare the plans you feel should adequately cover your parents. Another aspect to focus on is the claim settlement ratio. Ensure you purchase a plan that does not have a low claim settlement ratio, as this may result in complications for you going forward.

A new research published on Sunday has stated that trained dogs can identify COVID with a sniff, even if it is asymptomatic. In other words, dogs can sniff and detect if somebody has COVID with a commendable accuracy rate of over 90 per cent.

The study was carried out by a team of scientists from The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, in collaboration with Durham University and the group Medical Detection Dogs. Above all, this research comes to back the previous French study stating dogs being able to detect virus with 97% accuracy.

The researchers conducted experiment to find out if dogs could someone who is COVID positive, who emanates a distinctive odor. In order to carry out the study, samples of socks and face masks of 200 Covid-19 cases were collected. The tests were ran with 6 dogs who have been trained to indicate either a presence or absence of the chemical compound.

The group of the six dogs included Labrador, Golden Retriever and Cocker Spaniel breeds ranging in ages from 4-6 years old. Researchers found that the dogs were able to detect the scent of COVID infected within 6-8 weeks of training.

James Logan, the project lead said, “The results are extremely exciting… Dogs could detect Covid-19 with incredible speed and accuracy… even if a person was asymptomatic.”

According to the study, the dogs showed a sensitivity rate of 82%-94% in detecting the virus. Apparently, the chemical analysis of the infected stated a “distinct” odor, which dogs could pick up after training. The researchers are still working to identify the exact chemical behind it.

Although dogs detecting the disease could be a quicker and easier way to identify an infected person, the researchers still say a PCR test is the “gold standard”. Talking about the benefits, Logan added, “The other thing about dogs is that they would serve as a visual deterrent, so if people knew that dogs were going to be screening at the airport, it’s very likely that people would think twice about traveling if they were infected,”

However, even with the promising outcomes, it is still early to know if the trained dogs could be used as a tool in detecting the disease in real.

Actor Salma Hayek was one of the infected people who battled with Coronavirus, which she contracted last year, early on in the pandemic. She has been quiet about it since and kept her near-death experience a secret to herself.

Finally, Salma has opened up about her near-fatal experience and how she almost ended up in a hospital and died of COVID.

Salma is featured on the latest cover of Variety, where she shared her story of struggling with COVID. In the interview with Variety, Hayek recently made her near death experience with the virus public. Salma told she went in self isolation for seven weeks in a room of her home in London. She was eventually put on oxygen and even in such a critical situation, Hayek refused going to the hospital.

The actor told in the interview, “My doctor begged me to go to the hospital because it was so bad. I said, ‘No, thank you. I’d rather die at home.'” She also told Variety that the disease took her the best the part of the year to recover from the virus.

Last month, Salma returned to the shoot of Ridley Scott’s film “House of Gucci”, however, Salma says she still doesn’t have the energy she once had. Hayek said, “It was not a lot of time… It was easy. It was the perfect job to just get back into it I had started doing Zooms at one point, but I could only do so many because I would get so tired.”

Although Salma kept her COVID contraction a secret, in November 2020, she shared on her Instagram a montage of the times she got her COVID test done.

Now, Hayek is currently preparing for the release of her upcoming movie “The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard”, which is the sequel to the 2017 action movie. The film is set to premiere on June 16, 2021.

Ever since the vaccination process against COVID-19 virus began, pregnant women around the world have been confused whether the vaccine during pregnancy would be safe or not. Moreover, the vaccination was speculated to cause damage to the placenta. Finally, the said fears have been debunked by a recent study.

The study published in JAMA Today states that the COVID-19 vaccine do not harm the pregnant women, it rather protect them. Additionally, it could be beneficial for the infants as well. Although, it was already learned in February that pregnant women can pass the antibodies to the infant in the uterus, the study has confirmed it as well. It suggests that vaccinated women can pass protective antibodies to their fetuses through the bloodstream. Moreover, the breastfeeding mothers can also pass the antibodies to their infants through breast milk.

The study also states that Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna produce immune responses in women who are pregnant and lactating, and they can provide protection against at least two variants. Dr. Ai-ris Y. Collier, one of the authors of the study and a Physician-Scientist as Beth Israel said, “Vaccination of pregnant people and lactating people actually leads to transfer of some immunity to their newborns and lactating infants.”

Another study done by a team at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, USA, was published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. It states that the COVID-19 vaccine does not damage the placenta and is safe to use during pregnancy.

This research was done on the samples taken from 84 vaccinated pregnant women and 116 unvaccinated patients. The maternal and umbilical cord blood sample were collected. The research found that the pregnant women who were Covid positive while pregnant had placental injury, which led to abnormal flow of blood from mother to the fetus. However, no placental injury was observed in the vaccinated pregnant women who gave birth.

Other than that, the study also found that the pregnant women who received vaccine during third trimester had transplacental transfer of the antibodies to the unborn child.

As per the data provided by the CDC, the number of babies born in America in 2020 was the lowest since 1979. The federal figures released on Wednesday has shown a continuous decline in US fertility rate, with 2020 reaching the lowest in more than four decades.

According to the CDC figures, US women had about 3.61 million babies in 2020. Precisely, the US birth rate dropped 4% last year, which has been noted to be the largest single year decrease in 42 years. Besides, the total fertility rate fell to 1.64, which is also the lowest rate on record since the government started keeping track in 1930s.

Reports say that the birth have been declining in the younger women for years, with women postponing their plans on having a baby and their preferring smaller families. However, the birth rates for women in their late 30s and 40s have been rising, but it was not significant in 2020. Dr. Brady Hamilton of the CDC reported, “The fact that you saw declines in births even for older moms is quite striking,”

These new CDC figures are based on a review of more than 99% of birth certificates issued in 2020. The reports show that the current generation is moving further away from having children. CDC said that the U.S. birth rate is so low, the nation is “below replacement levels”, which means more people die every day than are being born.

Many of the 2020 pregnancies began before the US epidemic of COVID-19. Certainly, the pandemic has strongly contributed to this decline. The poor health condition and environment that rose with COVID-19 played a vital role in women’s decision making about getting pregnant.

Dr. Hamilton stated, “The fact that you had this coincide with the time the pandemic hit is certainly cause for suspicion.” However, he also mentioned that it is too soon to determine the exact impact of the pandemic on the declining birth and fertility rates. Hamilton said CDC researchers are working on a follow up report to determine what caused such steep decline.

Besides COVID-19, medical experts are linking this decline to lack of vital resources such as housing and food and the rise in unemployment rates.

The Centers if Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has eased the restrictions around mask wearing in public. On Tuesday, the organization announced that fully vaccinated Americans can be mask free outside of their homes, but still need to wear one in a big crowd of strangers.

On the other hand, the eased mask restrictions for the unvaccinated people have been eased as well, but only in some situations.

The CDC Director, Rochelle Walensky, said, “Today, I hope, is a day when we can take another step back to the normalcy of before. Over the past year, we have spent a lot of time telling Americans what you can’t do. Today, I am going to tell you some of the things you can do, if you are fully vaccinated.”

As scheduled, President Joe Biden also announced the new changes from the White House. He told, “Beginning today, gathering with a group of friends in a park, going for a picnic, as long as you are vaccinated and outdoors, you can do it without a mask. If you’re vaccinated, you can do more things, more safely, both outdoors as well as indoors.”

The changes have been considered as the country has achieved herd immunity with more than half of US adults being vaccinated. According to Walensky, the decision was made considering the increase in vaccination numbers, reduction in COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths; and research showing that less than 10% of documented instances of transmission of the virus happened outdoors.

Biden also urged the unvaccinated people to get the shot. He said, “For those who haven’t gotten their vaccination yet, especially if you’re younger, or think you don’t need it, this is another great reason to go get vaccinated now… now.”

As per the officials, fully vaccinated Americans can be unmasked while exercising, dining and socializing outdoors in small groups. They can also gather indoors with other fully vaccinated people and family members without masks or social distancing.

According to the CDC, a person is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after the after the second dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna vaccines or two weeks after the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. As per the new CDC update, the fully vaccinated Americans don’t need to cover their faces anymore unless they are in a big crowd of strangers.

The popular guitarist Ronnie Wood, primarily known as a part of the legendary band Rolling Stones, has revealed about his struggle with Cancer for the second time. The guitarist has announced being Cancer free again after secretly battling the disease during the lockdown.

Ronnie Wood had been struggling with cancer since early in the covid pandemic. The star revealed that he was recently diagnosed with a type of small-cell cancer, which, according to health experts, affects the lungs or prostate. This was Wood’s second instance with Cancer after he battled lung cancer in 2017. Back then, a part of his lung had to be removed in a 5 hour long operation.

In an interview, Wood said, “I’ve had cancer two different ways now. I had lung cancer… and I had small-cell more recently that I fought in the last lockdown.” He revealed that he has gotten an “all clear” from his doctors, which means he has defeated cancer one more time. Moreover, he gave the credit of his recovery to a “higher power”, a core belief of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Wood said, “I’m going through a lot of problems now, but throughout my recovery, you have to let it go. And when you hand the outcome over to your higher power… that is a magic thing.” He added, “That brings you back to the (AA and NA’s) Serenity Prayer: ‘Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. That’s incredible. What will be will be, it’s nothing to do with me. All I can do is stay positive in my attitude, be strong and fight it, and the rest is up to my higher power.”

Besides, Wood has always been open about his smoking, which he blamed for his lung cancer. He used to have 25-30 cigarettes a day for 50 years, as revealed by Woods. However, he finally quit in 2016 and became cancer free in 2018.

Other than that, Woods described how art as therapy helped him to recover. He said, “Art therapy was self-imposed in a way, especially in lockdown. The art has got me through it- to express and get lost. I’ve done so much work.”

Talking about the future, Woods said, “I’m just as busy as ever but nowadays I can remember what I’m doing. The music is still throbbing away. I’ve got a new album recorded at the Royal Albert Hall with Mick Taylor and my band… I used to never stop. It must have been relentless to be around me, just crazy the stuff I did. I was erratic but none of my enthusiasm has gone. I’m still nuts, still up all night. My energy comes after midnight.”
