Facebook announced via its blog post that the company was testing its two new features, which aim to inform the users about their service or account status in case of any disruption. Apparently, upon conducting extensive research and on the basis of the conversations with the communities, Instagram realized how users get confused whenever there is an outage and seem to think there must be trouble with their device. Therefore, they started working on new features which will save the users from this trouble by notifying them about the outage when it happens.

As per the updates, the first feature by Instagram will notify the users about the outage or any technical issue directly in their activity feed. However, the company also cleared that they are not going to convey a message or notification every time there is an outage, but only when they see there is confusion among people, and they need answers.

The abovementioned first feature will be first rolled out in the US, and if it starts making sense, Instagram will expand it widely.

The second feature is related to Account Status, which is currently in the testing stage. As per the update, these two new tools will make it easier for the people or Instagram users to be able to see what is going on with their accounts, content distribution, and if their account is at risk of being disabled. Under the Account Status feature, users will also be able to make an appeal if they feel a mistake has been made on the part of the company. They will be able to do so directly from the Account Status by the option “Request a Review.”

The third feature that Instagram is about to roll out is its verification request feature where Instagram users with high follower counts will be able to request Instagram to verify their accounts which could take up to several days. • First, tap on your profile and navigate to the Settings.
• Tap on ‘Request Verification’.
• You need to provide details as prompted by the panel.
• Tap on ‘Upload’ where you need to upload a government-issued ID such as national ID cards, Passport, Driver’s License, PAN Card, etc.

Now the waiting game starts as Instagram hasn’t provided any timeline on how much time will it take to accept or reject request after which, the users will receive a notification claiming the status. The journalist who disguised as a content reviewer via a third-party firm called CPL Resources stated how reviewers at Facebook were instructed to block those accounts that were reported by other users suspecting for being used by underage users.

Further, the reviewers disclosed how they tend to ignore other accounts even if they are underaged in case if there is no admission as such. On July 17, Facebook finally updated its policy. Although there are no changes made on how users’ can sign up on Facebook by entering his/her age, Facebook has trained and guided the reviewers on how to detect underaged users and take necessary steps to curtail their access to Facebook and Instagram.

Employees of these two social networking platforms have been trained to block accounts with the age under 13 in order to comply with the U.S. Child Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Further, the reviewers will block those accounts they suspect or have an indication of being used by underage users. They will scrutinize the data on reported users irrespective if the users had reported these accounts due to being underaged or the accused account has shared any objectionable content after which, they will verify the age and take necessary actions.

Users can self-certify their age on Facebook while signing up which means, they can lie their age without even getting detected. This particular feature will count the time spent on the app as well as allow the user to set daily limits on its usage.
