The Last Kingdom Season 5 Has Been Announced

The Last Kingdom has been officially renewed for a fifth season. The British historical drama is known for its stunning CGI, complex storyline, and star-studded cast.

Based on Bernard Cornwell’s ‘The Saxon Stories’ novels, the show debuted in October 2015 and has four impressive seasons to its name, with an IMDB rating of 8.4 out of 10.

Season 4 saw Uthred and allies face off against the Vikings and was loved by fans. Aethelred of Mercia was killed and his Kingdom is left exposed. With so much of the plot still incomplete, a fifth season only makes sense. Here is what we know about The Last Kingdom season 5.

The Last Kingdom Season 5 Release Date

Although officially renewed, no official release date for season 5 has been set. Taking into consideration the current pandemic, it is safe to assume that even if the producers are planning to begin filming as soon as possible, we won’t get to see the new season before late 2021. Expect the trailer to release a month or two before the season premiere.

Plot

Season 5 will consist of 10 episodes, which will most likely be based on Warriors from the Storm and The Flame Bearer, which are the ninth and tenth books in the Saxon series.

This season will most likely show Uthred extending his empire beyond England, whilst also training Aethelstan, son of King Edward, to become a warrior. It goes without saying that Uthred will be involved in yet more fights and adventures that will put his and his loved ones’ lives at risk.
